the youngest of the world's religions, barely five hundred years old. Its founder, Guru Nanak, was born in 1469. Guru Nanak spread a simple message "Ek Ong Kar": we are all one, created by One Creator of all Creation. It was at a time when India was torn apart by castes, sectarianism, religious groups and fanaticism. He did not adhere to any religion and respected all religions. He expressed the reality that there is one God and many paths, and the Name of God is Truth, "Satnam".

Guru Nanak's followers were Sikhs (seekers of truth). He taught them to bow down only before God and connect themselves with the Guru, the Light of Truth, who always lives in the direct consciousness of God, without experiencing separation. With words and example, the Guru demonstrates to his followers how to feel God within themselves, bringing them out of darkness into light. Guru Nanak was the humble bearer of this Light of Truth. He spoke out against superstition, injustice and hypocrisy and inspired seekers by singing divine songs that touched the hearts of the most callous listeners. These songs were recorded and formed the basis of the Sikh scriptures, which later became the "Sri Guru Granth Sahib".
