Brestskaya fortress - one of the symbols not only of Brest and the whole Belarus, largely due to tragicheskii and at the same time heroic times of the Second world war. The proposal for the construction of fortifications at the confluence of the rivers bug and Mukhavets appeared in the late eighteenth century the Course of the Patriotic war of 1812 confirmed its feasibility, and in 1833 was approved the project of the fortress, designed by military engineers by Opperman, Malecki and Feldman. The fortress was laid on 1 June 1836, and six years later it came into operation.
