Spreads contain less fat and more water - some are specifically marketed as (5) low-fat, while others are made from specific ingredients (6), such as Olivio made from olive oil, or Utterly Butterly made from "pure buttermilk".
The main advantage of butter (7) is that it is essentially natural. The main
disadvantage is that it contains (8) a high proportion of saturated fat that causes heart (9) disease.
